Crypto Screener: Quick Setups for Trend & Reversals
Use finstrument.ai's free TradingView-powered screeners to scan crypto for momentum, breakouts, and controlled pullbacks—without paying for data.
Start with a liquid universe
Focus on majors and liquid alts to keep slippage realistic. On the Screeners page, choose Crypto and filter by top market cap or volume. Thin, illiquid coins can ruin otherwise good setups.
Baseline filters (liquidity & stability)
- Quote venue: Use well-followed pairs (e.g., BTCUSD, ETHUSD, SOLUSD on major exchanges).
- Volume (24h): set a minimum threshold to avoid illiquid names.
- Spread/volatility sanity: prefer tighter markets and moderate ATR% relative to price.
Momentum scan (trend continuation)
A simple multi-timeframe momentum blend works well in crypto:
- Price above 200-DMA and ideally above 50-DMA.
- RSI(14) > 55–60 to capture constructive momentum.
- 1W and 1M % change > 0 to avoid stale names.
- Relative volume > 1.3× vs recent average signals participation.
Example: Major-cap momentum
- Universe: BTC, ETH, SOL, and top-20 by market cap
- Price > 200-DMA; RSI(14) > 60
- 1W & 1M % change > 0; RelVol > 1.3×
Breakout scan (strength near highs)
- Near 90-day high (within ~5–7%) or new 3M high.
- Volume expansion: RelVol > 1.5× vs 20D average.
- 50-DMA > 200-DMA to avoid countertrend fakes.
Example: Breakout candidates
- Universe: Top-50 by volume
- Within 5% of 3M high; 50-DMA > 200-DMA
- RelVol > 1.5×; 1W % change > 0
Reversal scan (pullback in an uptrend)
- Price above 200-DMA but pulling back to 20/50-DMA.
- RSI(14) cooling to 45-55 zone and turning up.
- % off swing high 5-12% depending on asset volatility.
Example: Controlled pullback
- Universe: Top-30 by market cap
- Price > 200-DMA; near/bouncing at 50-DMA
- RSI(14) recovering from ~45-55; 1W % change turning positive
Risk checks before action
- ATR% / realized volatility: size positions so your stop distance is sensible.
- Event calendar: earnings don't apply, but watch macro data, ETF flows, and exchange-specific news.
- Correlations: many alts track BTC/ETH beta—avoid over-concentration.
